Background
“I was in prison and you came to see me.” Mathew 25.36
The Prison Ministry was started in 1980 at Trinity United Church of Christ by Rev. Donald J. Fairley. The ministry members visit, minister, and correspond with those incarcerated, their families and loved ones, throughout Illinois, and other states. We work on behalf of our Lord, with adult and youth offenders, at risk youth, and affected families, in the interest of our community, which is disproportionately impacted by the incarceration epidemic.
Our Ministry is engaged in a variety of activities including:
- Weekly visits to Cook County Jail to facilitate a "Rap Session" with the inmates
- Monthly worship services at Stateville Correctional Center
- Quarterly Worship Services in the Women's Division at Cook County Jail
- "Crime Awareness“, a program where inmates "keep it real" for teenagers who want to get the truth about life behind bars
- Quarterly Worship Services at Oxford Federal Prison in Wisconsin
- A letter writing program where members have correspondence with inmates across the county
